If you are anything like me, wishing there were more hours in the day is part of your daily routine. As an event professional, you are responding to numerous amount of emails, attending an abundance of client meetings and working far from the conventional work week of Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Where do you fit in the time for you and the people that matter most?
The juggle struggle is real! From beating the clock to having some “me time,” here are three ways to help create a balanced life in 2016.
ONE: Learn to say “NO”
When you say yes to something you don’t enjoy, you say no to things you love. Many of us commit to obligations that we can do without. We may accept out of politeness or just don’t know how to decline. Nonetheless, it is something added to our calendar and to-do list. Before jumping on the “Yes Train,” take a second and think is it a good fit for you and will it benefit you in the long run. It is okay to say, “Let me get back to you.” You will begin to find a balance and be able to differentiate between what you must do, what you truly want to do and what you don’t want to do.
TWO: Love to say “YES”
Say yes to things that bring you happiness and make you feel alive. Clients meetings and answering emails shouldn’t be the only thing on your agenda. Say yes to socializing outside the office with family and friends and set aside time for your hobbies. Scheduling in some personal pursuit can keep you focused and motivated.
THREE: Take care of yourself
Working 24/7 can take a toll on your body both physically and mentally. Taking time off to unwind and relax doesn’t mean you are unproductive and lazy. Many fall into the trap of “I have too much to do to take time off.” You deserve it! Whether you escape to a tropical island or plan a “staycation,” take the time to recharge and reignite your creativity.
While the number of items on our to-do list grow, there are only 24 hours in the day to get everything done. We are all given the same 24 hours in the day. How will you use yours?
