If you missed our October program, here's the lowdown on what we experienced! The dreary and cold evening of Wednesday, October 28, 2015 set the perfect "Halloween-ish" tone for the ISES New Jersey North education program at The Escape Room in Hackensack, New Jersey.
The evening began with networking and delicious passed hors d'oeuvres provided by Franco Vitella Catered Affairs. The guest speakers were John Dwyer and Kathy Reed from Kathy Reed Productions, a company that specializes in producing interactive events. They spoke about different team building methods that can be incorporated into special events.
John aptly quoted Plato: "You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation."
Before we knew it, all of the attendees were on their feet in a straight line and were given team numbers.
We were sent back to our tables and were provided with paper, markers and a t-shirt. We were given the first team task of coming up with our company name and designing a logo for the t-shirt that was Halloween-inspired. The pressure was on to work cohesively as a team and beat the clock. Our next team building exercise was a memory game that required a team strategy to complete the activity.
Soon after, with team trust developed, we took our skills into the escape room. Teams of twelve had thirty minutes to escape: Riddles had to be solved, puzzles had to be decoded and locks had to be opened.
(It really was challenging!) The eagerness to solve the clues and escape the room kept everyone on their toes working collaboratively. The exercise demonstrated how ISES New Jersey North stands strong on teamwork and community.
